Blue Skies
Friday night I came down to the school and wrapped up the sketching portion on the right side of the bump out. There wasn't much to do on this side as most of the wall will be covered with 3-D structures. I did note on the wall where the 15 different layers of blue sky should go, in advance of Sunday's painting. It really did help come Sunday when I didn't have to stop and measure everything. I wonder what people thought at the basketball game when they looked at the wall and saw numbers painted on stripes. In effect, I guess I did turn it into a big paint-by-number! I was fortunate to have the lights left on Sunday; I was able to slow down and work harder at blending the colors. I believe the right side looks much better than the left. After I finished the right side, I moved the scaffolding over to the left side and tried to touch up some of the blends. I finally ran out of juice though there are still a few spots that need work. I'm going to go ahead with the clouds and if the blends still bother me after the clouds are in, I'll work on them more. I was ready to call it a day. Now I'll spend the week digging thru my research photos and studying them for the cloud reference. The wall is becoming smaller for me; I know that sounds a little strange, but it feels more comfortable to work on, more like a painting. I'm very excited to finish the sky and move downward.
I once again had my favorite critic with me. My dad was visiting for the weekend and kept me company on Sunday, offering advice and encouragement. He says he can't wait to see it completely painted…me too!
