Rockin' along
Well, a very productive weekend! I got a few hours in throughout the week, painting and this weekend I went at that rock in a big way. I covered as high as I could reach with my coating that I tinted a light brown color and then the next day I mixed up a palette of tempera paint and adding a little coating to make a slurry, I painted the rock to try and approximate my reference photos and the background mural. I'm very pleased with the result of painting on a 3D surface...you merely have to get the colors right, not attempt to create the illusion of cracks and depths and structure, as it is already there! I was really amazed at how realistic the rock looked in some places with the dry brush edging of a light gray at the end; it caught all the high ridges and emphasized them. Here are the side views of the structure. Next I will be getting some help to reach the top part!
P.S. I've also added a new page to the website, to list my 500 fascinating fact finders! thanks to all and keep up the good work!
